Unfortunately the Springbok experience permanently closed its doors on March 31st 2019. A sad loss.
The Springbok Experience was a world-class, modern interactive museum telling South Africa’s story through the eyes of its most powerful sport. It offers a fun and entertaining experience for the whole family at the heart of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The museum features more than 60 audio visual displays where visitors can watch the history of South African rugby unfold, set among cases displaying historic objects such as famous trophies, jerseys, boots and other memorabilia. The three caps above were awarded to Spanner Forbes – He was born in Australia in 1873, educated in Scotland and played rugby for South Africa. I believe the back left cap is a Transval Cap as he is recorded as playing for them in 1896. The other Two? He would of only been 15 and 17 when these were awarded so perhaps school or college related. South African Rugby Union cap awarded for the game against the Western Cape Zone in 1991.
