Welsh Football Collection

Wrexham Museum is home to the Welsh Football Collection. The collection was established in 2000 with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is the largest collection of Welsh football memorabilia held in public ownership in Wales. Highlights include material related to John Charles, Wales shirts from international games, and medals and trophies relating to all levels of the game in Wales, including a range of caps.

The collection is accessible to the public through temporary exhibitions held at Wrexham Museum, loans to other museums, and by arranging a visit to our museum collections centre.

In February 2023 it was announced that the Welsh Government is providing a further £5.45 million for the new Football Museum for Wales in Wrexham.

The museum, which will be within Wrexham Museum and see a substantial redevelopment of the building, will celebrate Wales’ football heritage and help build a legacy from the nation’s involvement in the men’s FIFA World Cup 2022, ensuring its history is valued and stories are recorded for future generations of players, supporters, and fans.

Many themes will be showcased at the Football Museum for Wales in Wrexham including Welsh language communities, fan culture, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities and LGBTQ+ experiences.
